Center for Auto Safety wrote a letter to the agency traffic safety and highway United States ( NHTSA ) by saying that the computer code or algorithm that works to develop the airbag when the accident occurred , the possibility of shutting down the system even if the passenger airbag was bouncing in her seat before the accident .
Airbags are not designed to inflate when the passenger weight below a certain size .
If the passenger was bouncing , but still in the sitting bench and using a belt , it was thought to reduce weight that have been programmed into the seat sensor airbag related algorithms .
Already there are 14 thousand fatalities on the front collision with a vehicle accident Impala 2000-2010 and the airbags did not inflate the accident . , Said the Center for Auto Safety .
The agency said 98 of them riders who crashed it in position using the seat belt .They also mention that the accident including the 2000-2002 models because there is the possibility of using the algorithm .
" We asked NHTSA to test every fatal accident with airbag that does not serve to ensure that the airbag does not work when it should expand , " said Executive Director of the Center for Auto Safety , Clarence Ditlow as quoted by Reuters page .
Ditlow praised accident investigator Don Friedman of Xprts LLC which revealed the alleged defects in the algorithm . In November , Friedman has asked NHTSA to begin investigation .NHTSA investigation could lead to a recall ( withdrawal ) .
" We will of course cooperate with NHTSA if the petition concerns over the next step , " said GM spokesman Greg Martin .
NHTSA states " have received and are currently examining the possibility of an investigation regarding the petition " on airbags in most cases Impala .
Algorithm airbag also became part of an investigation into the recall 2.6 million units of the Chevrolet Cobalt , Saturn Ion , and some models starting in February .
